CHIVASSO RUGBY ONLUS ASD is the first club in Italy accredited by IMAS (International Mixed Ability Sports)

For us, sport is not just about performance.

It is an educational space, authentic relationship, and participation.

The rules of rugby are our starting point: they help us build a sense of belonging, responsibility, and hospitality.

Every athlete has a role, every body has dignity, every difference becomes a resource.

Origins and identity

CROn (Chivasso Rugby ONLUS) was founded in 2010 thanks to the initiative of a group of educators and rugby enthusiasts who wanted to launch a sports project with a social purpose. The idea was simple and revolutionary at the same time: to use rugby, a sport often seen as “tough,” to build relationships, foster hospitality, and promote inclusion. We draw inspiration from British experiences such as the Llanelli Warriors and Swansea Gladiators, which show that it is possible to play real sport together, without barriers.

Over time, the project solidified, attracting new energy and becoming a structured and recognized reality at both national and international levels. Rugby became a pretext to generate citizenship, create networks, train professionals, and transform the culture of inclusion.

From the very beginning, our journey has been intertwined with that of IMAS – International Mixed Ability Sports, an international organization that promotes inclusion through sport. Thanks to this collaboration, we have taken part in European training projects, cultural exchanges, and the IMART tournaments – the Mixed Ability Rugby World Cup – where we represented Italy. IMAS’s support has recognized and valued our method and helped bring international visibility to our project.

Same rules for everyone

Mixed Ability rugby is not an adapted sport, but a space where everyone can participate on equal terms. The rules are those of traditional rugby. They are applied without substantial modifications, except for small adjustments when necessary to respect the specific needs of some participants. This approach ensures genuine inclusion without compromising the integrity of the game. On the field, everyone competes as equals, each with their own abilities, and it is precisely this diversity that makes every action richer, more real, and more meaningful.

Collaboration over time

The Chivasso Rugby ONLUS project has always been built on networks and collaborations. In 2014, through the dialogue between Enrico Colzani and Giovanni Ferlin of VII Rugby Torino, a synergy was created with the SevenTouch team, composed of former players, parents, and volunteers. This led to the formation of the first senior team in preparation for the IMART 2015 World Cup in Bradford.

This alliance gave rise to the VII° CROn project, focused on training facilitators, involving adults with disabilities, and fostering educational development. The first official logo also emerged from this context, created through a graphic design contest within the Albe Steiner Institute in Grugliasco, won by Andrea D’Ambrosio.

In 2021, after the pandemic, the association chose to embark on a new path. With the foundations with VII Rugby having changed, the collaboration shifted to San Mauro Rugby, an organization that welcomed and continues to support us. With them, we prepared for the IMART 2022 World Cup in Cork and continue to grow as one of the top ten Mixed Ability Rugby teams in the world.

Our logo

The logo of Chivasso Rugby ONLUS, created by the Giugiaro Architettura studio – our main sponsor from 2015 to 2024 – is not just a graphic mark, but a concentration of identity, roots, and vision. The main colors, white and red, reflect the official colors of the club and the city of Chivasso.

Black completes the composition with strength and contrast, while light blue symbolizes the Po River, a constant element close to our training grounds, representing the fluidity and living presence of the territory in our journey. Yellow recalls the ripe rice and wheat fields that color the surrounding countryside: it is the land around us, the nourishment that strengthens our roots. Added to all this are two fundamental elements of our sport: the rugby posts and the oval ball, recognizable symbols that proudly and meaningfully complete our brand.

Our logo, like our team, is made of relationships, places, and intertwined stories: it is not just a symbol, it is our flag.

The value of the network

From day one, Chivasso Rugby has grown thanks to a wide network: schools, local administrations, sports clubs, and social cooperatives. Together we build accessibility to sport, convinced that rugby is a powerful tool for inclusion, community, and active citizenship.
